Outguard Spire III (5.10+)

I'm happy to report that training @ Garage Gym has paid off with my first backcountry route of the season-Outguard Spire SW Arete III (5.10+) with John Train. Unfortunately, my day started with a 1:00 am call from my employer, Tahoe Forest Hospital, to assist with a C-section. I got home at 3:00 am and picked up John at 6:00 am. We drove to Bridgeport, and on to Twin lakes where we observed thunder clouds along the Sawtooth Ridge. The two hour hike into Little Slide Canyon revealed surprisingly little snow and we started the six pitch route at 11:30 am. The route was pretty cool except for sections of less than ideal rock quality and less than ideal protection. In my sleep-deprived state during the hike out, I stepped on a mini-bar sized boulder that rolled and I tumbled bruising my left hip (see photo). Also my freshly shaved legs (see photo) which created quite a stir on
Averageclimber.com also took a beating.

The following workout was performed on different days by Tim McDermott and Samantha Sheilds:
-5 x air squat to box jump (24")
-10 x kettle bell swings 26#
- jog to corner, about 1 min.
-rest 1 min. The rest period was decreased each round by 10 sec. until performed with no rest. Seven rounds total.

Then:
-High step circles x 5 each leg w/ 10-15# DB
-Curl lunge press w/ 2x 10-15 DB
-Man makers x 3 w/ 2x 10-15# DB
-Elbows down plank x 30sec

Continue circuit at high intensity x 15 min. Use the plank as a "rest"
